I took this photo at the Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini, Nepal. According to my Nepalese guide, Maya Devi Temple is the place where it is considered the Queen Maya gave birth to Gautama Buddha. Lumbini, Nepal is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites and now is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the temple, Nepalese staff members showed me a glass case and said Gautama Buddha had left his footprint on a stone and the footprint was encased in a bulletproof glass case like this.
