I've been to Pinnawala Elephant orphanage near Kandy, Sri-Lanka. I'm no expert, but I've heard that the place is for elephants who have problems to live in the wild. According to my Sri Lankan guide, the elephant on the center of this picture had the right forefoot blown off by a landmine. Pinnawala Elephant orphanage has a spacious space to watch over the elephants like them and shows some elephantine daily routine for the tourists from all over the world. One of the polar daily routines is giving milk to baby elephants.
