How come cat statues are there?

I took this photo in Malmö, Sweden. I looked up this beautiful building from the place where you can see a few cat-sized cat statues. I totally don't know how come there were cute cat-sized cat statues, but I was kinda curious about it and spent some time there. There was a bridge named Davidshalls Bron across the canal. It was very beautiful place, not only that, but it was also a unique spot due to the cat-sized cat statues. The well-made cat statues are walking along the canal or sitting and gazing into the canal. How come cat statues are there?
